Check Indexing & Keyword Ranking

Confirm whether your product listing is indexed (appears in Amazon’s search results) for specific keywords, and to check how well it’s ranking for those keywords — helping improve visibility and SEO performance.

Prerequisites

  • Access to Amazon Seller Central and your ASIN.
  • A list of target keywords you’re trying to rank for.
  • Access to an SEO tool (optional but helpful): Helium 10, Jungle Scout, or Data Dive.
  • Ensure the listing has been live for at least 24–48 hours after new edits before checking.

Procedure

Check Keyword Indexing (Manually)

  1. Go to Amazon.com (in a private/incognito window).
  2. In the search bar, type your ASIN followed by the keyword:
    • Format: ASIN keyword
    • Example: B0C12345GF tallow balm
  3. If your product appears in the results → you are indexed for that keyword.
  4. If it doesn’t appear → the listing is not indexed for it yet.
  5. Repeat for each keyword on your list (focus on your top 10–20 priority terms).

Check Keyword Indexing (Using a Tool)

  1. Open Helium 10 → Index Checker Tool.
  2. Enter your ASIN and paste your keyword list.
  3. Run the scan.
  4. Review which terms are indexed and which are not.
  5. Export or note the results in your Keyword Tracking Sheet.

Check Keyword Ranking (Position in Search Results)

  1. Go to Amazon.com and type each keyword into the search bar.
  2. Look for your product and note its position (e.g., page 1, row 3).
  3. Tools like Helium 10 Cerebro or Data Dive can show exact rank position automatically.
  4. Record keyword rankings weekly or biweekly to track progress.

Post-Execution Tasks

  • Update your Keyword Tracking Sheet with current indexing and ranking results.
  • Identify non-indexed terms and consider adding them to backend keywords or bullet points.
  • Recheck after making listing updates or SEO edits.
  • Share results with the marketing or PPC team to adjust ad targeting.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting

Not indexed

Listing is too new or keyword isn’t included in title/bullets/backend.

Ranking dropped

Competitors gained traction or listing edits removed key terms.

No search visibility

Listing may be suppressed or inactive.

Tool shows inaccurate data

Double-check manually — tools can lag by 24 hours.

Escalation

Contact: Seller Support

Only contact support if your listing is not indexing at all for relevant keywords after several days of being live.

Message to Seller Support

Hi, my listing (ASIN: [ASIN]) is not showing up in search results for relevant keywords, even though it’s been live for several days. Could you please confirm if the ASIN is active and searchable, or if there’s a hidden suppression affecting indexing?

Best Practices

  • Wait at least 24–48 hours after making listing changes before checking indexing.
  • Focus on 10–20 high-priority keywords instead of hundreds at once.
  • Regularly recheck your main keywords (weekly or monthly).
  • If a keyword repeatedly fails to index, add it once to the backend keyword section.
  • Use different phrasing or synonyms if the main term doesn’t index.
  • Keep consistent records to monitor long-term progress.
